Abstract

The discrepancy between particle-hole matrix elements of the nuclear interaction as obtained using a realistic two nucleon potential and as derived from experiment is partly but not completely removed by considering the effects of core polarization. Simple formulae for the corrections to the monopole interaction between a particle and a hole are given.
