Abstract

Participatory environmental communication framework engages ordinary people in communicative processes about environmental concerns so that they are able to identify the problems and are collectively empowered to make decisions to improve their situation. Participatory media provides an important platform for communities to tell their stories and create awareness about environmental issues from their own perspective. This chapter provides a step-by-step explanation of the participatory production process including choice of project, the process of message creation, and how engagement in the participatory process invites diversity, strengthens networks and fosters agency in participants.
