Abstract
Three cases of partially obstructed total anomalous pulmonary venous return are described to illustrate the plain radiographic findings. There are nodular and reticular changes in the lung fields due to pulmonary congestion and oedema but the heart is usually normal in size and shape. The diagnosis should always be considered in cyanosed dyspnoeic newborn infants showing this radiological picture and can be confirmed by finding clinical evidence of right ventricular failure and electrocardiographic evidence of right ventricular hypertrophy. Right heart angiocardiography will demonstrate the obstructed anomalous venous drainage.
