Abstract

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a promising broadband technique. The drawback of high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) can outweigh all the potential benefits of OFDM. In this paper, the problem has been dealt by using Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) along with Convolutional codes, a type of error correcting codes. PTS is a proven technique to reduce the PAPR in OFDM systems. It achieves considerable PAPR reduction without distortion; however the conventional PTS technique requires an exhaustive searching over all the combinations of the given phase factors. By considering the example of OFDM, with BPSK modulation, simulation results show that the combination of PTS and convolution coding performs well in reducing PAPR.
