Abstract

The current paper summarizes results of studies on the Spring viraemia of carp virus (SVCV) strains isolated in specialized fish farms of Ukraine. SVCV was classified as an especially dangerous disease of cultured fish by the International Epizootic Bureau (OIE). The study of this disease cases in Ukraine arouses special interest because Cyprinids are traditional objects of national aquaculture and the annual carp yield of stocked species amounts to 20,000 tons. This study presents results of the nucleotide sequence analysis of the Ukrainian strains of SVCV, isolated from carp during the monitoring research conducted in a fish farming pond in Ukraine during a 2010–2013 period. The comparative analysis of glycoprotein gene sequences revealed that the isolates of SVCV identified on the territory of Ukraine belong to the strain Fijan and together with other isolates form a genetic group Ia.
