Abstract

Abstract Partial ionization cross sections of argon, krypton and xenon have been determined for electrons with energy 0.5–18 keV. The following ions were observed: argon up to 7+, krypton up to 9+ and xenon up to 13+. The results were found to be in agreement with the Bethe-Born approximation. Our experiments show that the multiply charged ions are produced to a large extent via inner shell ionizations.
