Abstract
Abstract The Annual Scientific Meeting of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland was held in Brighton on 5–7 May 1999 under the Presidency of Professor R. C. N. Williamson. The abstracts of the oral and poster presentations of the original work presented at the meeting have been published in a BJS Supplement that accompanied the June 1999 issue of the Journal. The articles that follow in the present issue describe work presented at the Brighton meeting that have been accepted for publication after peer review by the Journal's referees. Other papers from this meeting will appear in subsequent issues.
