Abstract

Partial generalised oscillator strengths for an energy loss of 83.0 eV in ionising collisions of 1 keV electrons with nitrogen molecules have been obtained for the outer (3 sigma g, 1 pi u and 2 sigma u) and inner (2 sigma g) molecular orbitals for momentum transfers K from 0.82 to 4.36 au, using an electron-electron coincidence technique. It was found that the contribution of the outer orbitals to the total generalised oscillator strength amounts to about 80% for an energy loss of 83.0 eV.
