Abstract

This paper deals with effect of the distance between partial discharge source and sensor on the attenuation of partial discharge (PD) induced electromagnetic (EM) wave in gas insulated switchgear (GIS). The simulation of EM wave propagation was held based on Finite Difference Time Domain. EM wave induced by PD was measured in some observation point and processed by low pass filter (LPF) and high pass filter (HPF) to eliminate the higher mode and lower mode signal than TE11 mode of the input of the detected signal. The simulation included EM wave propagation defined by transmission rate. The results showed that the further distance between sensor and PD source, the lower transmission rates. The results were verified by calculation of transmission rate based on literature study. Besides, transmission rate for PD on conductor was generally higher than transmission rate for PD on GIS tank. It was also found that transmission rate of low frequency component was generally higher than transmission rate of high frequency component.
