Abstract

Insulation is one of the major requirements in any high voltage electrical system. The air-solid type interface forms a weak point for the partial discharges (PD) to occur. An understanding of the discharge process is contained in the PD pulse. The work is a study of the behaviour of the PD corona pulse shape in air and air-solid interface under different conditions. It is found that under varying conditions of the gap and overvoltages, there is a significant difference in the pulse shape.
