Abstract

A series of Nd+3 substituted Ni–Zn ferrites were prepared using the sol gel method. The nominal composition was Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2−xNdxO4 (where x=0.0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20). X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that all the samples have spinel cubic structure. Lattice constant as well as the grain size increased with Nd+3 substitutions. The X-ray density of all the samples remained constant, but there was a minor increase in the experimental density. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was done to find out the crystallization temperature and phase transition. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was used to find out the weight loss of samples with temperature. The resistivity of the material increased with the increase in the Nd substitution. AC conductivity of the Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe1.95Nd0.05O4 was less than that of all the other samples. Dielectric loss increased with the temperature and as well as with frequency. Magnetic measurements showed that Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe1.95Nd0.05O4 has the highest saturation magnetization (30.78emu/g).
