Abstract

Abstract A coordination number model for single component square-well fluids is generalised here to apply to binary square-well fluids using a one-fluid mean field approach. Based on Monte Carlo computer simulations of this work and of others we test this new predictive model for the species-resolved coordination numbers of square-well binary mixtures. The model is found to be valid for unequal values for the core diameter, interaction range and well-depth in the relative range ∼ × 2 for the two components. The predictions of the new model as a function of composition, density and temperature are in exceptional agreement with the Monte Carlo computer simulation results.
