Abstract

In this paper, study of the effect of part-time traffic signal operation at game approaches to one of the busiest roundabouts in the City of Sheffield (U.K) has been carried out. 'Before' and 'After' situations of this roundabout performance and capacity are presented and compared. It is noteworthy that the introduction of the part-time signals has led to considerable increase in the entry capacity in the peak periods from most approaches to this roundabout. Moreover, those signals have proved to be the most effective and economical solution for sharing out or balancing the entry flows between different approaches of the roundabouts.
