Abstract
In October, 2006, US television's Grey's Anatomy (ABC, Burbank, CA, USA) marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month by including a storyline in which a mother in her twenties was diagnosed with the disease. The changes in her breast had initially been attributed to the vicissitudes of pregnancy. It was, commented Kate Walsh, who played Dr Montgomery-Shepherd in the show, “a great opportunity to put storylines out there that are socially and medically relevant”.
