Abstract

Michael J. Fox's account of his experience of Parkinson's Disease in Lucky Man describes it as a gift which leads him out of the delusional world of magical thinking into his authentic self and a truth beyond mortality. This paper explores this ‘truth’ as presented in Fox's and others' illness narratives and relates it to the author's experience of his own Parkinson's diagnosis.
