Abstract

This article describes how Parkinsonian symptoms can produce difficulties with activities of daily living. Adaptations and assistive devices are discussed that can help overcome problem areas and improve levels of independence. Healthcare assistants and assistants practitioners have a vital role to play in the identification of problem areas. They can help patients by providing information on the types of items that are available and direct them to sources of further advice and equipment to help maintain a person's maximum level of independence. There is a glossary at the end of the article which provides definitions of words you may not be familiar with.
