Abstract

Estimates are given for the parity-violating asymmetry A( π ±) for the inclusive reaction p + p → π ± + X at high momentum transfer, p T, using longitudinally polarized protons. The most reliable estimate is derived from a weak amplitude calculated by inserting a weak interaction in place of a hard scattering in the constituent interchange model of high p T events. For values of p T as large as 8 GeV/ c, asymmetries A( π) are expected to be of the order 10 −4 or less.
