We compare and contrast quark-schemes and M-schemes as viable approaches to the unification of strong, weak and electromagnetic interactions, and establish intimate correspondences between them. We show, contrary to recent claims, that the M-scheme does not lead to large parity and hypercharge violation. Parity and hypercharge violation are arbitrary and adjustable to any small value.
