Abstract

<h3>Foot-and-Mouth Disease</h3> Foot-and-mouth disease, or aphthous fever, still prevails. According to recent advices, the disease has affected numerous animals in western France. In the department of Orne especially, 285 communities and 18,746 head of stock (bovines) have been affected. With few exceptions, the disease has been mild. The problem is of interest not only to the veterinarian but also to the physician, owing to the fact that thedisease is occasionally transmitted to man. A strict supervision is useful, but, in view of the difficulties encountered in trying to prevent clandestine removals of infected animals, by which the disease is spread over the countryside, energetic researches are being made to prepare a suitable vaccine. <h3>The Permanent International Committee on Occupational Diseases</h3> The fourth international meeting of the permanent international committee on occupational diseases will be held at Lyons, April 3-6, 1929.
