Abstract

International efforts on limitation of the Anthropogenic activities which based on the use of fossil fuels and reducing greenhouse gas emissions have intensified in recent years. In these efforts, the Paris Climate Agreement has become a new hope for the future of humanity and brought together developed and developing countries on the same common ground. In 2021, Turkey became a party by signing the Paris Climate Agreement. In this research, the obligations and responsibilities of Turkey in the Paris Climate Agreement are discussed. In the study, an evaluation was made using secondary data based on the literature. The Paris Climate Agreement has given states obligations on issues such as reducing CO2 emissions, limiting fossil fuel use, and protecting carbon sink areas. In this context, Turkey has stated that it will take measures to limit the use of fossil fuels, turn to renewable energy sources, reduce CO2 emissions until 2030, and set a "zero emission" target for 2053. The fact that Turkey is located in a fragile geography and is heavily affected by climate change significantly aggravates the risks posed by emission increases. Therefore, Turkey should prepare its own roadmap and take decisive actions on emission reduction and energy efficiency.
