Abstract

This analogue study investigated the effects of parental sexual orientation on therapists'-in-training perceptions of a family presenting for therapy. Participants were 101 female and 45 male masters and doctoral students who participated by reading a case vignette of a family and completing questionnaries on prognostic expectations, family attractiveness, and expected problems. The case vignette was manipulated to represent either lesbian, gay, or straight partnet. Results revealed a systematic pattern of biases against gay and lesbian parents relatice to prognostic expectations, family attractivness, and the problem the therapists expect the children would have when they grow up.
