Abstract

Measures of tolerance of enuresis and the ‘nuisance value’ attached to the disorder were obtained from the mothers of children entering treatment for enuresis. Mothers regarding enuresis as a greater nuisance tended to have more anxious enuretic children, and mothers from the less skilled socioeconomic levels were found to be less tolerant of the problem and to rate it as a greater nuisance. The attitudinal variables measured were not found to be relevant to rate of therapeutic response, but intolerant mothers were more likely to withdraw their children prematurely from treatment.
