Abstract

Antenatal education can provide wide-reaching physical and psychological benefits including the adoption of healthier habits, enhanced partner support, improved maternal wellbeing – including those with mild anxiety and depression – improved birth satisfaction, increased confidence and satisfaction with infant relationships for both parents.1 Whilst more research is required, it is clear antenatal education has much to offer pregnant women/people, parents and their children. At present NHS-led parent education is on the decline, whilst there has been an explosion in education opportunities within the private sector. These education classes are unregulated and often provided by lay people.
