Abstract

Parathyroid hemorrhage is a rare cause of cervical and mediastinal hematoma. In 1934, Capps reported the first case of parathyroid hemorrhage resulting in death from massive blood loss ( 1 Capps R. Multiple parathyroid tumors with massive mediastinal and subcutaneous hemorrhage. AM J Med Sci. 1934; 188: 801-804 Crossref Google Scholar ). Since then, there have been a number of case reports detailing a variety of presentations of parathyroid hemorrhage ( 2 Tonerini M. Orsitto E. Fratini L. et al. Cervical and mediastinal hematoma: presentation of an asymptomatic cervical parathyroid adenoma: case report and literature review. Emerg Radiol. 2004; 10: 213-215 Crossref PubMed Scopus (16) Google Scholar , 3 Zillikens M.C. Wijbenga A. Images in clinical medicine. Extracapsular hemorrhage from a parathyroid adenoma.
