Abstract

There are numerous parasitic infections that can affect human beings. However, parasitic diseases characterized by fever are not common. The causative agents are principally protozoa and, to a lesser extent, some helminths. Analyzing these infections in our setting entails studying imported diseases, such as malaria, as well as another that is both imported and endemic, namely leishmaniasis. The patient's epidemiological history is fundamental to help establish a suspected diagnosis. It is decisive to know if there has been contact with animals, insect or arthropod bites, trips or journeys made in recent months, outdoor activities, or consumption of unbottled water or food that is raw, rare, or not subject to health controls.
