Abstract

Highlights
Malaria is a life threatening parasitic disease transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes
Among the eleven pregnant women positive for malaria infection, ten (90.9%) of them were infected with Plasmodium falciparum, while one (9.1%) was infected with Plasmodium ovale
There was no significant association between rate of infected proportion and gravidity but there was increase in the mean of parasitaemia as the gravidity increased, this insinuates that pregnant women in these areas may have evidence of malaria infection at the time of birth if proper control and preventive measures are not taken
