Abstract

Larval mites from two families, Arrenuridae (one species) and Microtrombidiidae (two species), assigned to the genera Arrenurus and Ettmuelleria respectively, were collected from adult female mosquitoes and crane flies captured at Waikanae, New Zealand, during January 2002 and from September to April, 2002/03 and 2003/04 inclusive. These are the first New Zealand records of mite parasitism of mosquitoes and tipulids.
