Abstract
184 appendices removed surgically were examined; 32·6% were infected with parasites. Schistosome ova were seen in 44 cases (23·9%), Enterobius in 20 (10·8%); in 5 both parasites were present together. One case of amoebiasis was also found. Acute bacterial appendicitis complicated the parasitic infection in 15 schistosome cases, 1 Enterobius and 1 amoebic case. Enterobius infection of the appendix, and appendicitis supervening on amoebiasis, have not previously been reported in Egypt.
