Abstract

One hundred and five stray dogs from Kabul were examined post mortem for parasites. Seventy-seven dogs had Echinococcus granulosus, some of them being heavily infected (152 700 worms in one dog) and large numbers of other cestodes were also found. Sixty-eight dogs had Spirocerca lupi, 36 Toxocara canis and two dogs had Dioctophyma renale in their right kidney. Ticks, mostly Rhipicephalus turanicus, were commonly seen especially in spring. None was seen in winter. Forty dogs had fleas, mostly Ctenocephalides canis and 25 had Hippobosca flies.
