Abstract

Abstract TAFE courses are currently undergoing major upgrades from the traditional subject based format with norm based assessment, to modular, competency based training (CBT), developed specifically to incorporate national competency standards and to assess students against clearly defined criteria. It is proposed to revise the existing offerings in surveying, survey drafting, land information and cartography by developing a broad range of modules (whose duration is based on a nominal 40 hours of training) under a federal project funded by the Australian Committee for Training Curricula (ACTRAC). The competencies required at Australian Standard Framework (ASF) levels 3 to 6 will be incorporated into the appropriate modules. Modules so developed can then be either organised into courses leading to awards in the new Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as traditional course offerings or, individual modules may be delivered to satisfy the acquisition of specific skills.
