Abstract

Paraphysomonas butcheri sp. nov., which occurred as a contaminant in a culture isolated from a salt-marsh pool, has a spherical body bearing two anterior flagella, the longer possessing two rows of mastigonemes, the shorter smooth. The body surface is covered in scales of two types, perforated oval flat discs and open three-dimensional structures. The organism is compared with the four other species of the genus.
