Abstract

Abstract Neuroglial heterotopia is a rare condition in which mature neuroglial tissue is found in the body other than in the central nervous system (CNS). We report a rare case of heterotopic neuroglial tissue in the left parapharyngeal space. Ultrasound neck was suggestive of atypical cystic hygroma. Computerized Tomography (CT) and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a heterogeneous mass with cystic component occupying the parapharyngeal space. No connection to intracranial structures was noted. Histological findings were compatible with neuroglial heterotopia.
