Abstract

The problem that faces the IT manager is that hackers are not restricting themselves to attacks that are most likely to bounce off a firewall. The vulnerability of other users on the network provides other hazards for the IT manager, as networks of zombie machines broken open by worms and viruses are then used to engage in distributed denial of service attacks or more subtle ways to making life difficult. In this briefing, the author looks at some of the big trends in attacks and how they are coming together.
