Abstract

We present a numerical model of coastal circulation described by the free-surface Navier-Stokes equations. The classical two-equation k — ε closure model adapted to stratified flows is modified to take account of the non-isotropic effects on turbulence due to buoyancy, the Coriolis force and shallow waters. The objective is to study the influence of turbulence parametrization in the simulation of the wind-driven coastal upwelling circulation.
