Abstract

The paper presents the experimental results of a parametric subharmonic oscillator using V20 varicap as non-linear reactance and having output frequency one-half of the pump frequency. The resonance curves for a low frequency, taking pump power and bias voltage as variable parameters, have been given. It is found that there exists a threshold amplitude for generation of oscillations and a sort of hysteresis with respect to the pump frequency and amplitude. The curves showing the variation of threshold amplitude with bias voltage and subharmonic output with pump amplitude and frequency have also been given.The basic theory of these oscillators has been developed for large signals. The expressions for the range of synchronization, threshold amplitude, etc., have been derived. The theoretical estimates have been compared with the experimental results.
