Abstract

The paper presents the parametric studies and design method of unequal depth H beams-HSS steel column corner joints with H-dampers. According to corresponding experimental studies, nineteen numerical models were created by ABAQUS and their reliability was validated by comparative tests. The design methods and corresponding calculation of H-dampers with three perforated shapes (diamond, ellipse, and vertical) are exhibited. The primary analyzed variables were beam depth ratio (Dbs/Dbw), H-damper types, limb breadth (B), and limb length (lf) of H-dampers. Then, the bearing capacities and initial stiffness of beams and bearing capacities and energy dissipation in H-dampers were studied through parametric analysis. The results indicated that T-connectors and H-dampers could elevate the bearing capacity and initial stiffness of shallow beams. H-dampers exhibited better energy dissipation performance. Besides, web-perforated forms of dampers affected the beams and dampers. Wider limb breadth and shorter limb length enhanced the bearing capacity and initial stiffness of beams, and reduced energy dissipation of H-dampers.
