Abstract

The parametric studies were performed to investigate the effect of sensitive parameters on the measured damping quantites; air and water, temperature, frequency and boundary conditions. The type of excitation used was random noise. A flat plate configuration was used to minimize extraneous energy losses (i.e. joints) associated with built-up structure. The wide range of excitation frequencies is considered to understand the frequency-dependent damping characteristics in both air and water media. As a results of investigation, the sensitivities of damping quantities were tabulated and discussed.
