Abstract
The linear ion susceptibility is evaluated for the cases of either weak or strong ion‐ion collisions, starting from a Fokker–Planck collision term. The thresholds of the plasmon‐phonon parametric instabilities are then computed under conditions of interest for the laser plasma‐heating experiments. The values obtained are significantly lower than those previously published.
