Abstract

The instability of a spatial subharmonic grating during photorefractive hologram recording is investigated theoretically. It is shown that such instability arises in crystals if the electron drift length in the external field exceeds the fundamental grating period. Cases with dc and ac external fields are considered. The influence of diffusion and trap charge saturation is examined.
