Abstract
A magnetosonic pump wave propagating in a plasma with two ion species decays into two electrostatic ion-cyclotron modes at a threshold significantly less than those needed to excite parametric or modified two-stream instabilities in a single-species plasma when Te/Ti > 1. The pump wave frequency must somewhat exceed the sum of the ion gyrofrequencies.
