Abstract

The main objective of this work is the development of an experimental method providing data for the estimation of equations of state, kinetics of decomposition and detonation parameters for composite explosives with large failure detonation diameters. Measurements of detonation parameters for such mixtures are associated with the explosion of large charges, which is not always possible. It is also desirable to obtain the necessary information in a minimum number of experiments. Such problems are currently under widespread investigation; e.g. hot spot formation and ignition of composite propellants under shock loading have been simulated numerically by Bay and Ding (1990). Small scale tests for the estimation of decomposition kinetics parameters and the failure diameter of propellants were carried out by Tarver and Green (1989).
