Abstract
The parameters of an atmospheric-pressure electric discharge across an active metal electrode immersed in an electrolyte and the electrolyte surface (the thickness of the plasma sheath produced around the active electrode, the distribution of electric potential in the sheath, electrolyte temperature near the sheath boundary and electrode surface) were measured, and the plasma parameters (electric field strength, mean energy and number density of electrons) were determined. It was shown that the plasma of these atmospheric-pressure discharges is nonequilibrium and the discharge in electrolytes is a new type of electric discharge.
