Abstract

The identification problem of bioprocesses in a stirred tank reactors essentially concerns the determination of yield coefficients and reaction rates involved in a general state space model. In this paper, we concentrate on the identification of the yield coefficients. It will be shown that the yield coefficient identification can be completely decoupled from that of the reaction rates by means of an approriate transformation of the dynamical model. The identifiability of the yield coefficients is investigated. It is shown how it is related to the model structure. One necessary and sufficient identifiability condition and two necessary conditions are presented and illustrated with realistic examples.
