Abstract
This paper presents a parameter extraction method for the single-diode model of the solar cell. It employs only the data at three special operating points: short circuit, open circuit, and maximum power points. Three equations are derived from the I-V relation and one equation is from the maximum power point condition. A searching method is proposed to find possible solutions to those four equations. A cost function, which considers the relations of parameter at short circuit, is used to select the best solution. Compared to a few well-known methods, this method usually yields smaller errors.
