Abstract

1. Incorporation of solvent molecules in the crystalline complex of benzidine (B) with tetracyanoquinomethane (TCQ): B-TCQ, affects the value of the charge transfer energies as a function of the change in the B-TCQ interplanar distances. The decrease in the charge transfer energies is due to the formation of a H bond in the excited state of the complex. 2. The paramagnetism of B-TCQ complexes is primarily determined by the TCQ−· anion radicals which arise during the electron transfer reaction.
