Abstract

A parallel wire drift chamber, 68 cm2, with variable field shaping wire voltages was developed, built and tested at the University of Colorado. Data was obtained for various gas mixtures and field shaping voltages. The drift velocity did not remain constant for regions near the readout wire. Our results were reproducible within an accuracy of about 100 μm.
