Abstract

Procedures are presented for parallelizing implicit schemes for computational material dynamics. These procedures are illustrated on an implicit version of the von Neumann-Richtmyer (vNR) scheme. The original vNR scheme, a one-dimensional scheme for continuum dynamics in the material reference frame, has extensions to two- and three-dimensional and spatial reference frames. The vNR codes, and codes with similar structure, are representative of large classes of codes accounting for large numbers of supercomputer cycles.
