Abstract

This article attempts an integration of an indirect “Ericksonian” form of hypnotherapeutic suggestion with Jesus’ parabolic style of teaching. A detailed clinical example of hypnosis is presented. This example is followed by an explication of the multiple principles of hypnosis which were operative in that example. The discussion then shifts to a focus on selected aspects of parabolic communication which utilize similar indirect strategies. Finally, a comparison and contrast between the two modes of communication is made.
