Abstract

A new gasdynamic model of 3D viscous gas flow over blunt bodies with permeable surfaces is suggested — named the Parabolic Viscous Shock Layer theory (PVSL). The advantage of this theory in comparison with other mathematical flow models (thin viscous shock layer (TVSL), full viscous shock layer (FVSL), parabolized Navier-Stokes equations) consists in the possibility to calculate the flowfield on the front body surface up to its middle section and to use very economical and effective numerical methods for obtaining these solutions. In the framework of the PVSL theory, systematic numerical solutions of some two- and three-dimensional hypersonic viscous gas flow problems past blunt bodies for a wide range of Reynolds numbers and body shape are obtained; the accuracy and the applicability range of the suggested model are estimated on the basis of comparisons with theoretical and experimental data.
