Abstract

N identical atoms interacting with photons are considered. Different kinds of collective variables were used to study collective effects in the system (e.g. superradiance) taking as an example Dicke collective spin. A new kind of collective operator is suggested, namely the Green para-Fermi operators an labelled by an index n that enumerates atomic levels. The system Hamiltonian, conservation laws and superradiant states are written in terms of the para-Fermi operators. Their use is discussed.
